48" Strip Heater offers an effective, economical way for DIY-ers and short-run production operations to bend plastic and acrylic material up to 1/4" thick. Quick and easy to use, just unroll, plug in, heat and bend your material.
85 Watt
Heats up to 280 deg. F
Heating: Remove film or paper masking from both sides of the sheet to be bent. Lay sheet on flat, heat-resistant work surface, such as a scrap piece of sheetrock.
Lay the strip heater on top of the plastic sheet. Placing a piece of insulating material over the heater to increase contact will speed up the heating process. Be sure there is continuous contact between plastic sheet and heater.
Plug strip heater into electrical outlet and heat sheet until it is soft enough to bend with little effort. It may take up to 30 minutes for 1/4" material to bend easily.
Bending: Remove the strip heater and bend the sheet to the desired angle. Hold in place until cool. For better control of the bend, place a square bar for sharp bends or a dowel for a more gradual radius in the fold of the bend.
Tips: Practice bending on scrap material to develop a good technique. DO NOT bend strip heater over a sharp corner, as this will break the internal wires.
SAFETY NOTES: Take care when handling the strip heater, its surface can reach 280 deg F. Whenever heating acrylic, have a dry chemical fire extinguisher nearby. Never use water on an electrical fire.
